R.E. DAVIS COUNSELOR'S CORNER

MEET OUR SCHOOL COUNSELOR

Welcome Vikings,

I am excited about starting my fourth year as R.E. Davis College Preparatory Academy’s school counselor for the 2024-2025 school year. It is my great passion to maximize student success in order for all students to recognize and make the best of their abilities! As the school counselor, I take part in building a safe, loving, and nurturing environment for each and every student. Serving as your child’s school counselor is one of my biggest joys and I truly love what I do and the little people I serve daily. As your child’s school counselor, I believe:

  • ALL students have a right to be heard and treated with respect and kindness.
  • ALL students should have the right to high-quality education.
  • ALL students are unique, and when given a safe environment, will succeed to their fullest potential.
  • ALL students’ emotions are valued and welcomed.

A little bit about me– I attended Claflin University and earned my bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Education. Right after I graduated, I continued my education at South Carolina State University and earned my master’s degree in Professional School Counseling with K-12th grade certification. In my free time, I love to spend time with my husband and family as well as running our other businesses. I also love going bowling, home decor shopping and planning events.

In the counseling department at REDCPA, some of the topics that students may seek assist includes in the form of individual sessions, small group sessions, and whole group classroom guidance lessons are:

  • Social skills
  • Friendships
  • Goal-setting
  • Conflict Resolution
  • Emotional Awareness
  • Coping Skills
  • Decision Making
  • Behavior and Choices
  • Self-Esteem
  • Self-Management

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via phone (803) 495-3247, email Jamellah.Carney@sumterschools.net.

I am looking forward to continuing working with our wonderful students at R.E. Davis College Preparatory Academy.

Best,

Jamellah S. Carney
